Do I need to fast before my appointment?
This will depend on the type of appointment. Full details are emailed to each customer regarding any specific preparation that is required once booking is made. This may include fasting for 6 hours, amongst other requests.
If I'm on medication, do I have to stop taking this before the appointment?
No, please continue to take your medication as instructed.
However these may have an impact on the results shown dependant on the screen chosen and relevance to the medication.
For example, blood thinning medications, such as aspirin or warfarin, can affect the results of this test. If you have been prescribed these medicines by your doctor, please speak with your Personal Co-Ordinator prior to testing in order to seek appropriate advice. Please do not stop any medication without medical advice.
If I'm on supplements, do I have to stop taking these before my appointment?
This is your decision; supplements may have an impact on the results shown dependant on the screen chosen and relevance to the supplements.
For example, Iron preparations/supplements can lead to positive results and it is preferable for these to be stopped at least 48 hours prior to testing.
Is blood taken?
This is dependent on the appointment type. Details of this are provided in the information sections of each Panel/ Health check. All blood samples are taken by Proactive Health and Wellbeing phlebotomists intravenously.
Is a urine sample taken?
Similar to bloods, this is dependent on the appointment type, and you will be provided details of this in the booking information when sent to you.
Do you test children/under 18?
Proactive Health and Wellbeing do not conduct health checks on anyone under 18.
Can I walk-in for an appointment?
We ask that you book your appointment in advance via our website due to the requirement of fasting for some of our health checks. However, you can certainly come into the Clinic to meet with our team and discuss what can be booked. We can also assist in-Clinic regarding making a booking.
For the panels, how will I receive my results?
How you receive your results will be panel-dependant. Certainly, when you attend your appointment, speak with the clinic team and they will assist you specifically regarding your panel of interest.
How long are the appointments?
In general appointments will vary dependant on what testing is carried out. Ranging from 20 minutes to 1 hour.
Why do you ask for the SEX of the person attending the appointment?
For laboratory testing of any sample, certain tests have different ranges for biological males in comparison to biological females. This is why biological sex is asked for. This allows Proactive Health and Wellbeing to ensure that the correct ranges are used when samples are being tested.
